My Predictions for Online Video in 2023
So 2023 is here and once again online videos have been growing in popularity. With social media platforms seeing an ever increasing number of users, they to have been required to increase their video usage and available tools to stay relevant and ahead of the competition.
But what can we expect to see in 2023 when it comes to using video for our businesses?
Video still has room to grow
Even with the continual increase of online video consumption, there is still plenty of room for video to grow and develop. With the new addition of fold out mobile devices and larger portable screens, there will be further boosts in viewership and enjoyment.
The increase of device screen sizes will also result in a need to increase the quality of production, not just the story telling.
Long form content is king
I strongly believe long form content is here to stay and will grow over 2023 especially with the accessibility of YouTube continually improving on home devices, such as TV’s, Laptops, Tablets and Computers.
The types of video that will grow are in the entertainment genre such as Mr Beast videos. Along side this, educational videos and interview/conversational style podcasts with more than one person will see a demand for high video production. These are great techniques to reach out to people. Look at Diary of a CEO or the Joe Rogan Podcast, where there is a mixture of entertainment in story telling, education with learning from other people as well as a relatable video with the 2+ people having a general conversation and interview.
However…
Short form content is the key to unlocking greatness
As contradicting as this may sound to my previous point, the truth is long form content does not exist without the short form push.
You need to be using a strategy when creating video content, for example taking clips from your interview or podcast and putting it into videos that are up to a minute in length. Ideal for reels, TikTok and shorts to get shared with the maximum audience. This can then be pushed out in 1-3 minute videos that get across the point you are making to the audience who have taken an interest.
With the goal being, for these short videos to lead to your long form video content being consumed from people who have built a relationship with you and your brand. Almost to the point you have earned the attention of the viewer not just expecting people to watch it.
Short form quality will increase
Looking back at other platforms in the early stages, there has always been a push towards better quality over quantity. There is nothing to say any different from short form content.
TikTok will look to lead the way in this. This is due to the ever increasing competition from Instagram reels and YouTube shorts. With TikTok really pushing as the dominant short form leader.
Paid Ads will increase
Paid ads are going to grow too, with more companies dedicating larger percentages of their marketing budget to social media advertising. This in part will increase the price of online video marketing and may lead to small businesses missing out if they do not jump on this bandwagon sooner rather than later. In line with this we will see more and more video ads as we view more content online.
Conclusion
So there are the predictions I have for 2023. There will be an evolution of short form content and a major increase in paid ads and potentially the last year of paid ads being affordable for smaller businesses so don’t miss your chance.
Remember if you are looking to bring video into your business to help with growth there is still room but the impact needs to be right. Ensure you have put together a plan to achieve the best from your videos and earn the right to have people watch them.
