What to Consider When Picking Your Outfit for Video.

What to wear on your business videos

What's up everyone I'm Ben from Your Video Team and today we’re talking about the clothes you wear for your video shoot.

Recently I created a poll about what people are wearing when it comes to creating their content.

LinkedIn Poll on what to wear for your corporate videos

As you can see people are wearing more casual outfits more than anything else, whether that be smart casual or just casual like a Hoody and a T-shirt. You do get the occasional person wearing a smart suit, but no one is wearing fancy dress (which is a shame in my opinion).

Here are some things to consider when you're picking your outfits for your videos;

Firstly is it on Brand?

Is your outfit telling people what you do?

So if you are a personal trainer you wouldn't be wearing a suit you'd be wearing a T-shirt and shorts something that you can do your workouts in.

As an estate agent if you want to get your point across, you'd be wearing more suit jackets or something smart for the job, so people feel confident that you know what you're talking about.

Maybe you're a builder working on site, are you wearing the tools of your trade. Have you got the hard hats on and the high viz, are you showing people that you are safe in your workplace.

The things that you and your brand stand for can be shown in the outfits that you wear.

Not only is it about the clothes that you are wearing but also in the colours that you wear.

An example of what to wear when filming Corporate Videos

Can you get some of your brand colours into your outfits?

You will see in some of the other videos that I have created I wear a bright orange hoodie not only because it's comfortable but also because that's the brand that I have with Your Video Team.

And again talking about the colours does it contrast the background?

You don't want to wear an outfit that matches the background as you will get lost in that video. Especially if you are working on a blue or green background you want to avoid wearing these colours as you will disappear.

Another thing to consider:

Is your outfit distracting in anyway?

Maybe you're wearing what looks like a nice striped dress or shirt, but it causes a moire affect on camera, which gives the illusion that something is moving when it actually isn’t.

Maybe you have a bright big logo that is standing out for too much or you're wearing jewellery that's making too much noise. Maybe you're wearing a big watch that's banging on the table.

These are all distractions that take away from the message that you're trying to get across in your videos.

But most importantly the best bit advice I can give you is that you are comfortable in what you're wearing.

Wear what you would wear every day if you're comfortable with that. It allows for your personality to start shining through. I want you to appear more approachable on camera and to get your point across more clearly.

Relaxed approach to Corporate Video

If wearing a suit makes you feel all stiffen up and tight or if you wear baggy clothes that you wouldn't normally wear then you can come across less confident about what you're trying to say in the points that you're trying to make.

These are just some of the things for you to consider when it comes to your videos and what you're going to wear.
